What Is Rainbow Fentanyl?

young woman consoling female friend and explaining what is rainbow fentanyl

What is Rainbow Fentanyl? It is a type of illegal opioid that is cut with other chemicals to produce a colored pill or powder that can look like candy. It is highly addictive and often mixed with other drugs to heighten its effects, making it extremely dangerous and potentially lethal with just one dose. If you know someone abusing rainbow fentanyl, talk to them about enrolling in a fentanyl addiction treatment program before their addiction causes organ failure, brain damage, or death.

At Swift River, our team is waiting to welcome you into our private and comfortable treatment facility to begin your recovery from fentanyl addiction. Our certified therapists have experience treating all types of addiction and will run a full assessment to place you into the appropriate program. Patients will participate in group and private therapy sessions while receiving medication to minimize any withdrawal symptoms and cravings. To discover the benefits of our fentanyl addiction treatment center, ask us a question using our online form or call 413.570.9698 to speak with one of our friendly team members today.

What Is Rainbow Fentanyl?

Fentanyl is an opioid used to treat pain in patients recovering from surgery or after a significant injury such as a car accident or for those living with pain from cancer. It produces a heightened state of euphoria that is very addicting, especially when taken with alcohol, cannabis, or other depressants. Rainbow Fentanyl is one of the names of street fentanyl that is altered to look like brightly colored pills or candy. Because it is illegally manufactured, there is no telling the potency of each pill, and a single dose can cause an overdose or other adverse reactions.

Individuals who take opioids for pain management and begin abusing their prescription or move to harder drugs like heroin or meth may try Rainbow Fentanyl for its heightened effects. Here are some of the common signs of opioid abuse that you can look for:

  • Taking opioids as a precaution to expected pain when going out
  • Running out of their prescription before the refill date
  • Finding prescription bottles from different doctors or for other people
  • You notice frequent mood changes from agitated to elated
  • Their sleep pattern changes

At Swift River, our team is committed to helping individuals and their families recover from addiction and lead healthy and sober lives. During admissions, we will answer any questions you have and discuss what is Rainbow Fentanyl and the dangers that come with abusing this lethal narcotic.

The Dangers of Fentanyl Addiction

Fentanyl is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. Illicit Fentanyl is extremely dangerous, as there is no way of knowing what the drugs are laced or cut with unless you have test strips. Rainbow Fentanyl is mixed with other chemicals, such as baby powder, food coloring, laundry detergent, boric acid, and baking soda, to change its appearance and potency.

When other drugs like heroin, meth, and other opioids are mixed with Fentanyl, it dramatically increases the high and lethality. There are many cases where people take one dose of rainbow fentanyl and overdose. If you suspect someone is overdosing on Fentanyl, the common signs of overdose include:

  • Constricted or pinpoint pupils
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Slow or weak breathing
  • Limp body
  • Unable to physically wake them up
  • Their skin is cold or clammy
  • Fingertips and lips have a bluish tint

After calling 911, try to keep them awake by talking or forcing them to move. When they lay down, keep them on their side to prevent choking. If they stop breathing or are unresponsive, naloxone is an injectable medication that can immediately reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and keep them alive until help arrives.
